Reflecting on 2017

Tonight we say goodbye to 2017. To the good, the bad, the amazing, the difficult. We hopefully have sweet memories to hold close. The hard, the difficult are opportunities for us to learn, grow, and let go. For me personally, this was a year marked by growth. It had many ups and downs. So very many. But on the very last day of 2017, I can confidently say it is a year I am proud of for myself and my own personal growth.

For those of you who have joined me on my journey as a new friend, a customer, a family member, THANK YOU. Thank you for your support, your encouragement, your care. Thank you for being present.

I jumped into a new business October 2016, and 2017 really saw it take flight. I reached many goals, though not all of them, but I was able to find solid ground in my beautiful company. Purpose, joy, inspiration, and community have been my constant companions each and every month. In the midst of the hard, in wanting to give up on myself, I always found renewed hope that gave way to persistence. I am very proud to say my Sseko business is here to stay. I am a part of this company, and it is a part of me.

This new year will be full of new things, including family changes as we become a licensed foster-care family, business changes as I finish merging my website (blogging a lot more–yay!) and set high goals for getting to Uganda in 2019. I’m sure the year will not be without pain, but I pray it’s a year I fully rely on my Savior, point my little ones towards Him, pursue excellence because of Him, and keep persisting because of my forever hope.

If you are a friend, please know I want flourishing friendships to be an integral part of this coming year. We need each other! And community is my favorite.

The Art of Simple encouragers her readers to take time to reflect on this past year…

“I’m all for starting a fresh new year, dreaming big, finding that one special word, or whatever helps you clean out the cobwebs in the corners. But all this is much more meaningful when you remember the bends in the road behind you.

Honor the past year by celebrating your joys, mourning your losses, and shaking your head at the wonder of it all. Isn’t it amazing another year has passed? And so the earth goes round and round, about to orbit once more.”

She provides specific questions to work through. I challenge you to go through these for yourself before jumping into planning and goal-setting for 2018. Find those here.

I hope you have some time today to reflect and look forward. Happy New Year!
